Originally a part of a Ultra Scan pregnancy testing franchise, we noticed that hoof issues were so prominent and widespread that we decided to start Southern Hoof Care dedicated entirely to fixing these issues.
This involved constant research and education, and we found that the “Dutch Method” seemed to produce the best results for overall hoof health.
We believe that by focusing solely on hoof care that we can provide better, more comprehensive services for our customers.
By being on farm on a regular basis, we are able to rectify hoof problems before they become a major problem.
Over time we noticed less severe problems and less issues overall when we do more maintenance trimming. When claws are routinely correctly trimmed, longevity of the herd may be extended.
Prevention and treatment of lameness is critical in cow welfare and improving farm profitability.

Sietze Feenstra
Owner / Hoof trimmer
Sietze moved from The Netherlands to New Zealand in 1990 to follow a dream to become a farmer. After dairy farming for 10 years, he moved with Simone to Southland to set up an Ultra-Scan Franchise. During this time he got the opportunity to be trained as a hoof trimmer by his brother in law who had been a professional hoof trimmer and instructor for 25 years in The Netherlands. As the owner of Southern Hoof Care, Sietze continues to do hoof trimmings himself as well as pass his knowledge down to his team. He and Simone live on their dairy farm in Tuturau with their 2 teenage sons.

SIMONE BOUWMEESTER
Owner / Office Administrator
Simone travelled to New Zealand in 1995 for a dairy farming internship and never left. After farming for 5 years with Sietze, they started an Ultra-Scan franchise in Southland to calf dehorning and cow scanning. During this time they both also worked as AB technicians. With the sale of the Ultra-Scan franchise in 2017, they moved to Tuturau and took over the management of their dairy farm and Southern Hoof Care. Simone looks after the administration side of the hoof trimming business.
